NBJ: Why Donelson was 'screaming' to this hot chicken restaurateur

Austin Smith knows there's not a ton of dining options in the up-and-coming Donelson area. His solution? Smith picked a spot on Lebanon Pike for the second location of his hot chicken restaurant, Party Fowl. "I live in Hermitage," said Smith, the Gulch restaurant's operating owner. "For me and my wife and my three kids, when you're looking at places to go in that area there's just not a ton of options around there. … There's so many people and so few options."

That ever-growing pool of people convinced Smith that Donelson was the right spot for Party Fowl's new 13,000-square-foot location, set to open in spring 2018. He pointed to Donelson's No. 15 spot on a recent list of the country's fastest-growing residential ZIP codes as proof the area can sustain a trendy hot chicken eatery.

"It just was a place that was screaming to me," Smith said.
